Dear Friend of Freedom,

On the 5th day of the “summer of recovery” Jim Moran proclaimed “People don’t understand . . . the economy has recovered.” The economic news has since gone from bad to worse.

Click Here to Watch Video of Moran

Consider these economic facts:

* Unemployment rose last month to 9.6%
* We have more than $13 trillion in national debt
* Annual deficits are $1.5 trillion and increasing.
* The new housing market is the lowest since statistics have been kept
* The existing housing market is the lowest in 15 years
* The automotive market is the lowest in 30 years
* CBO last month revised upward the projected deficit for FY11.
* Economic growth for the 2nd quarter was revised downward by almost 50%
* The largest tax increase in American history is scheduled for January 1.

Jim Moran’s prescription for recovery has been massive deficit spending and massive tax increases. It hasn’t worked. We are headed in the wrong direction and Moran’s policies only hasten our arrival at economic disaster.

I believe there is a better way. If we are serious about solving our economic problems and creating jobs we need a new approach – we need Representatives who are more concerned about the American people than they are about their own re-election.

My economic recovery program calls for:

* Rejecting Jim Moran’s January 1 massive tax increases
* Maintaining our existing tax structure for 6 years to give small business the climate of certainty they can use to plan investment and growth
* Eliminating the federal deficit by requiring agencies to find 2% reduction in expenditures per year over 3 years. This may be done by eliminating increasing efficiency and/or by eliminating waste, fraud, abuse and duplication.
* Reduce the corporate tax rate by 30% taking us from the highest in the world down to the middle of the industrialized world. This will increase global competitiveness.
* Enact bi-partisan entitlement reform
* Eliminate pork barrel earmarks
* Enact a Presidential line-item veto
* Cut congressional pay 10% and freeze it there until the budget is balanced.

The difference between Jim Moran and me is I understand small business is the economic engine of our economy. We need a predictable business climate where small businesses can plan to invest, grow and create jobs. Jim Moran does not understand that – Jim Moran thinks the economy has recovered.

Job creation requires a vibrant private sector. It needs profitable businesses that take those profits and invest them back into their own future success. Jim Moran’s plan for punitive taxation of business profits is counter productive. It creates a drag on the economy and kills jobs.

Come hear Jim Moran and I debate this and other key issues Tuesday night at 7:30pm at the Arlington County Civic Federation debate held in the Hazel Auditorium at the Virginia Hospital Center. I hope to see you there. Get there at least 15 minutes early for parking and seating.

Honor and Courage,

Patrick Murray

Candidate for Congress

Our yard sign sale has been going very well. So well that our supporters have helped the campaign to purchase 828 signs since Friday.

That only leaves 172 signs to go to meet our goal of 1,000 by Monday morning.

The printer tells us that we need to place the order by Monday morning in order to have the signs delivered on Friday for our Labor Day Sign Blitz.

Can you please help us out by purchasing 2 signs for $6.46?

If you can buy 10, 30 or 100 signs, that would almost put us over the top.

If you would like to help us show Jim Moran that Patrick Murray is in command of the 8th District,

Thanks for all your support and let us know if you would like to help with the Sign Blitz next weekend.

Dear Friend of Freedom,

The Murray for Congress campaign is placing the first yard sign order for the general election on Monday. This is in preparation for our planned Sign Blitz to take place over the Labor Day weekend.

Can you help us by buying a few yard signs?

The cost of each sign is $3.23. This includes the printing, metal stand, and shipping.

The number of signs we order will depend on your response to this email.

Actually, we would like to order 1,000 signs on Monday. That would be a total cost of $3,230. But we can only do that if we have a thousand responses to this email.

So would you be willing to help us out by buying a few yard signs?

Of course, if you can buy 10 signs, 30 signs, or even 100 signs, we would really be appreciative. But our deadline for placing the order is this Monday.

Imagine the look on Jim Moran’s face when he gets in his car on Tuesday morning and sees 1,000 Murray for Congress signs that have “sprouted” overnight. I would buy a ticket to see that! We have the Sign Blitz volunteers ready to go. Now we just need the signs.

If you would like to help us show Jim Moran that Patrick Murray is in command of the 8th District,
click here to contribute to our effort. Please buy the maximum number of signs that you can. Then look to see the results on Tuesday, September 7!

Thank you for your contribution!

Dear Friend of Freedom,

For the Murray for Congress campaign there is no such thing as the dog days of summer. With only 11 weeks left until Election Day we have a full schedule for the rest of August leading to the traditional Labor Day “official kickoff” of the campaign season.

Fresh off a great weekend where we went door to door in Alexandria and had a spectacular day at the Irish Festival in Alexandria’s Waterfront Park, we need volunteers Tuesday night at our new campaign HQ in Alexandria. We will phone banking supporters about a few upcoming events and need your help. We will start at 6:30p and you don’t have to be precisely on time! Please email volunteer@murrayforcongress.com if you can join us. Dinner will be served. HQ location is 801 N. Fairfax Road in Old Town.

Starting Thursday evening and continuing through the weekend is the Arlington County Fair. You don’t have to be from Arlington to volunteer for and enjoy this great event.

We will also be going door to door again this weekend in Alexandria. Our door to door efforts have been very strong and we anticipate another good showing this weekend. Please let us know if you can help. Our schedule for this weekend is:

Saturday, August 21st
Door-to-Door in Alexandria
9:30 AM – 12:00 PM
Meet at HQ, 801 N. Fairfax Street, Alexandria
(Free parking in the lot behind building)

Sunday, August 22nd
12:30 PM – 3:00 PM
Meet at HQ, 801 N. Fairfax Street, Alexandria
(Free parking in the lot behind building)

Finally, take a minute and a half and watch my latest campaign update to learn more about our August 24 reception with Congressman Frank Wolf in Reston and the Grand Opening of our new HQ on September 1st. I hope you enjoy these brief video reports as my personal method for me to keep you abreast of our activities.
